  7.     "A scientist should change his field about every ten years,"
  8. says Baron Manfred von Ardenne. A man of his word, he has
  9. worked over the years in physics, radio electronics and
  10. microbiology, and even helped Stalin build an atom bomb. As
  11. East Germany's best-known scientist, Von Ardenne, 83, heads a
  12. private lab in Dresden. His latest project is one to make
  13. skeptics gasp in disbelief. An "oxygen multistep therapy" --
  14. which includes inhaling pure oxygen while exercising -- it is
  15. being touted as both a cure for cancer and a fountain of
  16. youth. He claims good results, though the final proof may be
  17. up in the air.
